Narrow cobblestone street with white buildings; distant orange manor on green hill. Lamppost in foreground. Sunny, serene atmosphere.

Albufeira is one of the Algarve’s most popular destinations — and it shows. It’s lively, built-up, and buzzing with energy, especially in the summer months. If you don’t mind the crowds, it can be a fun spot to soak up the sunshine, enjoy the nightlife, and explore some well-known beaches.

The old town still holds onto a bit of charm with its cobbled streets, tiled buildings, and mix of local and touristy restaurants. But it’s no hidden gem — expect bustling squares, souvenir shops, and lots of visitors.

Just outside the centre, you’ll find the marina and long stretches of sand like Praia dos Pescadores and Praia da Falésia, both great for a classic beach day.

While not the quietest place in the Algarve, Albufeira has its appeal if you're after an easygoing, social atmosphere with plenty of entertainment, beach access & nightlife.

Highlights:
  • Old Town Albufeira – Cobbled streets, lively squares & traditional local charm

  • Praia dos Pescadores – Central beach lined with colourful boats, cafes & easy access

  • Praia da Falésia – Long stretch of golden sand backed by dramatic red cliffs

  • Albufeira Marina – Colourful, modern marina with restaurants & departure point for boat tours

  • Cave & Dolphin Tours – Popular boat trips exploring sea caves like Benagil & spotting dolphins

  • Drinks at Sal Rosa – Hidden rooftop bar perfect for a sunset cocktail with a view

  • Ice cream at Crêpe da Baixa – Delicious handmade ice creams & treats in the town centre
